Restaurant review: BC Kitchen

During Dineout Vancouver 2018, we visited BC Kitchen in the new Parq Casino (next to BC Place stadium).  The casino was on the second and third floors of the hotel, and BC Kitchen was  on the west corner of the second floor.  We arrived a little early, but were quickly escorted to our waiting table in the back of the dining area.

We stuck with the offerings on the dine out menu, and my dinner companion started with the greek feta salad.  This was arugula, peppers, cucumbers, olives and tomatoes, with a garlicky dressing, and topped with crumbed feta cheese.

I went with the dirty mac n cheese

This is cavatappi noodles in a cheesy bechamel sauce, topped with toasted bread crumbs and a little barbequed pulled pork.  This mac n cheese was really good. The noodles were al dente, and the sauce was rich and cheesy (albiet a little bit dry).  The toasted bread crumbs added a nice crunch.  The pulled pork was pretty minimal, about a spoonful in total.

My dinner companion’s main was the haida gwaii coho salmon

coho salmon fillet pan seared to crispy, and served on top of grilled asparagus, fingerling potatoes and and a sea bean salad (dressed in a mustard vinaigrette).

My main was slow braised beef osso bucco

This is a beef shank, slow braised in white wine and vegetables, served over a parmesan and mushroom risotto.  This beef shank was tender and meaty, and the risotto was soft and creamy, with a lot of savory tones from the mushrooms and the parmesan cheese.  And The bone marrow was soft and tender as well.

My dinner companion’s dessert was a caramel crunch cake with ice cream

This is a yellow cake with a crunch topping, drizzled with a caramel sauce, served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream

My dessert was the churros with dulche de leche

This is a trio of freshly fried choux pastries, dusted with cinnamon and sugar, and served with a small cup of dulche de leche (a thick caramel sauce made from sweeted condensed milk.  These were nice churros.  They were hot and crisp on the outside, and lightly sweet.  The dulche de leche was thick and sweet.

Our server was very courteous, pleasant and and prompt.

The dining room is quite spacious and well lit, and being a sports bar, there’s a television screen in view from just about every angle.  Despite the proximity to the casino floor, we could not hear the sounds of the slot machines outside (mostly drowned out by the sounds of the overhead televisions and the current sporting event).
